The cemetery is the ‘final place’ of the deceased. In some tribes, cultures, and communities, the deceased are buried in their properties, churchyard, or public cemeteries. But some people can opt to buy memorial lots. It is not the prestige you are paying for but for various reasons such as security, cleanliness, and, most importantly, less crowded than public cemeteries.

Deciding where to bury a deceased family member is essential. There are a lot of things to consider.

Here are the five important things to consider when choosing a cemetery:

• Location: While a funeral home offers a hearse in their funeral package, it only covers a 25 kilometers radius from your area. Otherwise, you might incur additional costs. Plus, it would be easier for you to visit the grave of your loved one if the cemetery is close to your residence.
• Cost: Public cemeteries are cheaper compared with private memorial parks. Because it is cheap, it can get crowded, especially during All Souls Day. On the other hand, private memorial parks might be a little pricey, and you will have a quiet space to pray for your deceased loved one’s soul silently.
• Cleanliness and security: Though you are still responsible for cleaning your loved one’s grave in a private cemetery, the public spaces such as the road and alleyways are being taken care of. Because cemeteries are quiet and have almost no people during regular days, the park’s management provides security guards to ensure safety. 
• Space: Because public cemeteries are almost free, there might not be enough space for everyone. Private memorial parks allow you to choose the lot and area. You will have more flexibility and are guaranteed that you have a lot for a deceased loved one and you and your entire family. 
• Other features: In the Philippines, all cemeteries have a large cross in the middle. Those who can not visit their loved ones’ graves during important days such as death anniversary or All Souls Day can see the nearest cemetery and light a candle at the cross. Apart from the large cross, the private cemetery or memorial parks also have a chapel. A Catholic mass will be held during special events such as Christmas, All Souls/Saint’s Day, etc. And, you can also go to the chapel to light a candle and say a little prayer.
