The continued rise of Ncov cases in the Philippines have instilled fear amongst its constituents. Up to date, there are 12 deaths and more than 100 infected individuals recorded by the Department of Health. Although nationwide, regional and local measures like community quarantine and border restrictions have been implemented, there are individuals that are put at risk because of their work nature.

We, at Funeralink, follows guidelines set by the Department of Health in handling expired bodies caused by the Novel coronavirus. Here’s a summary of what the guidelines transpired and how we strictly adhere to such measures.

  1. Individuals handling the cadaver must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) at all times. These includes face masks, gloves, protective clothing, medical gowns, eye protectors/face shields, and/or N95 respirators. All disposable PPE articles must be disposed of after use.
  2. After 12 hours of an NCov infected patient’s death, burial or cremation must be done. Other burial or cremation customs can be upheld by the victim’s family in accordance to traditions and customs.
  3. Mortuaries or crematorium’s that were contracted for the disposal and handling of an expired body must remain confidential at all times.
  4. Deaths of foreign nationals, on the other hand, must be reported first to the Bureau of International Health Cooperation (BIHC). The agency will then notify the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) which will communicate to the foreign national’s respective embassy.

Other specific measures can be found in the Department of Health’s memorandum no. 2020-0067.

Safety Amidst CoVid 2019

Aside from keeping personnel or healthcare front liners equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills and equipment. We urge them to follow these simple yet critical preventive measures. More so, we would like our readers and clientele to follow them as well for safety and prevention.

  1. The most basic yet crucial step is to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds. If possible, wash your hands with soap and sing to a tune of happy birthday for a squeaky-clean pair of hands. Handwashing is a must especially after a day of social interactions, being in a public place, after using the washroom, sneezing, coughing or blowing your nose. If you don’t have water and soap readily available, use alcohol with at least 60% concentration or hand sanitizers.
  2. If you have unwashed hands, refrain from touching your nose, mouth and eyes.
  3. Practice social distancing. When at public places, keep yourself at least 3 feet away from other people.
  4. If you’re sick, implement self-quarantine. Don’t go outside except if you’re planning to visit a doctor.
  5. If you need to cough, cover your mouth with a tissue and immediately dispose it. If you don’t have tissue available for use, cover your mouth with your sleeve or elbow.

As an additional security measure, you can wear face masks if you need to go outside and transact on a public place. However, don’t hoard face masks, alcohols, hand sanitizers and detergents. Think of other members of community that needs it as well.

The Novel Coronavirus may seem as an adversary that we can’t defeat. However, with the community’s compliance with the safety measures being imposed by the government and self-discipline transmission can be minimized.
