In a world where traditions, norms, and rituals shape the overall perception and values of everyone in this Earth, funerals have become our way of saying goodbye to our dearly departed. After all, when the gravity of the goodbye cannot be expressed in words, tears, and Memoriam, rituals are everyone’s way of coping with the grief. However, one may find the necessity of the ritual’s roots unknown or cannot be pinpointed in a single explanation. In this guide, we’ll discover the purpose of celebrating an individual’s cycle of life and death and how they became an essential part of our lives.

Funerals Let Us Grasp The Reality

The thought of death is a heart-breaking and a mind-boggling occurrence that most people cannot easily comprehend. Accepting it takes time, support, and respect from everyone in the household and anyone a part of the deceased life. Acknowledgment is the first step toward acceptance. The fact that everyone acknowledges that one must move on forward with a life without their dearly departed is the reality dawning upon them. Death is inevitable. But, this reality must be whole-heartedly accepted with a fact that supports the cause of death to justify the questions of why.

Funerals Become a Step Towards Moving Forward

We see a lot of families denying the fact that their beloved member of the household is dead. This is acceptable. Up until their funeral services, friends and families cannot accept that their lives must go on without their departed. Funerals are rituals that ultimately tell us that it is time to lead our lives without the earthly presence of our beloved. Funerals are venues wherein grief and loss can be openly expressed.

Funerals Let Us Remember The Departed

One’s life is a commemoration of how they made their time on Earth meaningful, full of impact, and memorable to the people they have met and touched. Funerals highlight the departed’s memories of accomplishment, amusement, intimacy, and stories that will always remain in the hearts of the living. These moments affirm the presence of the lost, and this is an indication that they will always be remembered.

Funerals Changes Us

In a way, the loss of a dear one changes our beliefs, values, priorities, and ultimately, us. Take a look, for example, and you are John Brendan, a son, a brother, and a friend. If your brother suddenly leaves this place because of an illness, you’re no longer a brother. With this tragic change, the living develops a new role that conforms with reality.

Funerals Provide Us with a Sense of Meaning and Purpose

More often than not, when death dawns upon a loved one’s life, the reality comes crashing that wee will eventually die. And when death comes upon us, the question becomes imminent, “how does one make their life meaningful?”

Though funerals have become a meaningful yet unfortunate occurrence that everyone has come to embrace. Funerals become an avenue for people to fully express their grief and their loneliness, remembering their shared moments while pondering at life itself.
